Questions for your doctor

Everyone comes back from visits to doctors saying 'I wish I had remembered to ask about..' so here are a few prompts. Don't expect all the answers at once as many depend on test results.

What is my virus level and genotype?
Should I be vaccinated against hepatitis A and B?
Do I need a liver biopsy or ultrasound scan?
Do you advise treatment or long term monitoring?
Do I have any other conditions that will complicate therapy?
Do I have sufficient liver scarring to be at risk of liver cancer?
Which type of Interferon do you prescribe for my treatment, and how much Ribavirin?
How long will my treatment last?
How often do I need to be seen?
What tests do I need to take? Will these tests be repeated? How often?
Do you automatically tell me all the test results or will I have to ask each time?
What side effects can I expect?
What approach do you take if I become anaemic?
Whom do I contact about any side effects I am having?
Should I contact you directly?
What changes should I make in my everyday life?
What other medications can I take, and which should I avoid?
Are there any trials of new treatments which I could be eligable for?
